About Us
OUR GOAL…
“Gardening is a way of showing that you believe in tomorrow…”
Greenscape Gardens has made it a mission to make St. Louis County a greener community by creating successful gardeners. The future depends on our ability to restore the Earth and help heal the damage already done. The concept of “Grow Your World” developed from the idea that gardening is a journey and we can learn more about the world and ourselves as we follow nature’s path. To help guide gardeners on this journey, we offer a diverse selection of plant materials to help restore the environment, encourage the use of natural fertilizers and pesticides, and make it easy to practice sustainable gardening (through the pot recycling program and demonstrations).
OUR TEAM…
After starting a lawn and tree care business in 1972 ( Greenscape Lawn & Tree Care), John and Sally Loyet opened Greenscape Gardens in 1994. Now under the management of their daughter, Jennifer Loyet-Schamber (recipient of the 2007 Green Profit Magazine’s Young Retailer Award), the company continues to “bloom”.
OUR PLANTS…
Greenscape Gardens proudly grows over 30,000 perennials on a yearly basis. We offer a wide selection of plants that are well-suited and acclimated for our area. Check out our great selection of “GrowNative” and “Plants of Merit” selections. We encourage our customers to return our perennial pots so that they can be cleaned and re-used the following season. All other pots can be returned for recycling. We also feature a great selection of trees that are recommended by the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) and approved by AmerenUE, as well as a colorful array of shrubs suitable for St. Louis gardens. Don’t miss our delightful selection of annual flowers/veggies/herbs and our delicious collection of tropical plants!
OUR GARDENS…
The 9-acre property of Greenscape Gardens is surrounded by demonstration gardens. These gardens were developed to both inspire and educate our customers. The Gazebo Garden features a large selection of newly introduced trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals. The Barrett Village Train Garden features two G-scale garden trains set amongst a 19th century village and miniature plants (runs seasonally). The Plants of Merit Garden showcases a wide variety of plants well-suited for the lower Mid-West. Other garden features include a fish pond, gazebos, and other surprises to be discovered. Our bio-swale garden helps control stormwater run-off from Barrett Station Rd. which helps to filter water from the road.
OUR FUTURE…
By supporting our community, our community has supported us. We will continue to strive to make it easy to “Grow Your World”.
Our History
Greenscape Gardens Nursery and Garden Centeris St. Louis's leading one-stop resource for all your gardening needs. From the moment you enter Greenscape Gardens you realize you're in for a treat. Our paved 50 space parking lot is surrounded by an extensive selection of perennial and annual flowers complemented with mature trees, shrubs, and ornamental grasses. Paved sidewalks meander through the gardens to enhance your senses and capture nature at its finest. Relax under the cool shade of the flowering wisteria arbor, or view the splendor of the rose and perennial garden from the Dougherty Ferry Gazebo, or feed the koi and goldfish in the large water garden, or enjoy the soothing sounds of the pool fountain, or simply sit back and watch the action from the Barrett Station gazebo.
Greenscape Gardens is a family owned and operated nursery and garden center. This was the lifelong dream of John and Sally Loyet. The dream became reality in 1994 after 20 years of owning Greenscape Lawns (a landscape maintenance/lawn fertilization business). After two decades of landscaping, we commenced creating a full service garden center serving the Greater St. Louis area. The nursery encompasses 9 acres including four greenhouses totaling 24,000 square feet. Greenscape Garden's General Manager is Jennifer Schamber (daughter of John & Sally. The Retail Manager is Jenniffer Elliott and the Nursery Manager is Dan Traum.
